79 Day Litter Pick

79 Day Litter Pick

How our environment looks and feels has a big effect on us. Alexia Franklin feels so passionately about this that she decided to pick litter and clear up rubbish for 79 consecutive days. As a result, her town council want to know more about Quest 79 and the positive impact it is having. Alexia is also feeling grateful every time she cleans something up as she loves contributing to making her local area a nicer place to be.

Alexia’s commitment is starting to create those ripples of inspiration in those around her. Other people who live locally have started to join, and children have been thanking her for making the streets around their homes nicer places to be.  Alexia is thinking BIG with this and her vision is that her rubbish-cleaning Quest 79 can spread around the world and help clean up our environments.

Q79 Top Trumps!

Q79 Top Trumps!

We hope you like our mock-up TOP TRUMPS card pack that will soon be available. We are gathering some of our favourite Quest 79 challenges that capture the diversity of ideas and creativity that is happening! We are so inspired by the participation of people around the world and the creativity of ideas emerging. The youngest participant so far is age 6 (producing 79 episodes of the Messy Rainbow podcast, by kids for kids), and the oldest age 79 (my dad, who rode 79 miles on his bike for 79 years and raised a big chunk of money for The Spinal Injuries Association). Please check out the list of inspirational challenges that we are aware of so far, although we are sure its not fully comprehensive. Thirty of these fabulous stories are being selected to join the deck of our Top Trumps card pack. Our vision is for our Q79 Top Trumps to be played in families around the world, inspiring and helping us all remember that we can really unleash our incredible talents, skills and creativity when we commit to stepping even just a fraction out of our typical comfort zone. When we reveal some of the shiny inner gold inside us this way, we are positively impacting the lives of many as well as our own. We are looking to find distributors for the cards now, and look forward to making the game available far and wide!

We are so grateful to the CEO and team at Winning Moves who produce Top Trumps. They have generously offered to create many thousands of packs of Quest 79 Top Trumps cards free of charge to help support our vision of spreading inspiration around the world.

79 Podcasts

79 Podcasts

Welcome to the MESSY RAINBOWS podcast. Two incredible young sisters, ages 6 and 9 started a podcast during Covid-19 lockdown to help other kids with ‘messy heads’. They are interviewing a diverse range of people covering topics from how to love yourself and manage your emotions, to gardening, crafting, journaling and all sorts of topics connected to mental health and wellbeing particularly for children. They have decided to connect with Quest 79 and produce 79 podcasts throughout the pandemic to remind everyone that even though heads can get messy, there are always colourful rainbows inside.

There is a great exploration of what they are doing connected to Quest 79 in this podcast with The Entrepreneur’s Doctor. Well worth a listen and if this episode is too long for you, try some of the others that are around 5 to 10 minutes in length.

We things these girls are amazing!!!

Quest 79 medal

Quest 79 medal

We hope you like our new virtual medal so that we can say thank you and recognise all of you that take part in Quest 79! Each and every one of you that participates are having a positive impact not only on your own life, but in spreading inspiration to those who you connect with. When we see others doing something over and above the ‘normal’, then it positively impacts everyone by begging the questions ‘What could I do?’ or ‘How could I contribute more?’ or ‘How can I make my world or the world around me a better place?’.

We are so grateful to the team and designers at Hi-Create in Inverness. Quest 79 began in Inverness, with a launch event at Eden Court Theatre  ‘coincidentally’ held on 7/9 ! Since then we have slowly and organically grown, spreading inspiration like a positive virus. We hope you will be inspired to join in.

79 Swims

79 Swims

We have a couple of individuals putting in some impressive and unique swim challenges!

Elaine Mochrie challenged herself to 79 cold water swims between winter and summer solstice – with no wetsuit! That averages out at 3 swims a week – how brave! … or crazy?! Elaine has swum in all types of water from the North Sea to icy ponds. Cold water swimming has many benefits such as increasing your metabolism.

Ally Meredith is also on a Quest 79 to do 79 sea swims. 79 days in a row. For a minimum distance of 79 meters: and on the day we post this the sea was 7.9 degrees! Ally is being super disciplined throughout his challenge, constantly showing up to take on the cold water.

The coldest sea temp Ally faced was 7.1°C! No doubt Ally and Elaine will feel truly revitalised and accomplished after completing his Quest 79.

79 Peaks in 79 Weeks

79 Peaks in 79 Weeks

Rowan Purrett set himself a unique Quest that really stretched him. He decided to climb 79 peaks in 79 weeks: a big job for an 11-year old who had never done much mountain climbing! He was inspired by the landscape surrounding his home in the Isle of Skye, and in the process learned to scramble, tackle snow and ice, and involved friends and family in his challenge. He also raised funds for children in Africa less fortunate than himself.
